Course Description

Many people are finding themselves frustrated, stuck and disheartened in their working life due to not being able to overcome challenging things that get in the way of them reaching their goals. These might be project goals, individual goals or even organisational/company goals.

Often individuals and teams set off with great aspirations, form teams and create what they think is the right focus for a project. But soon cracks appear and people come up against obstacles which prevent them from achieving what they set out to do.

This has been made worse since the Covid Pandemic by remote working, complexity of organisations and cost pressures.

These obstacles can be in many forms. The people you work with, too restrictive or conflicting timescales, limited or wrong resources, your or others’ lack of knowledge, your or others’ skillset and capabilities, and often unclear communication and individual priority setting.

All of this means we are losing time, money and energy in inefficiencies. People get demotivated and sometimes tempers rise.

It is often our mindset which gets in the way.

Our Course aims to help individuals and teams unpick these obstacles. Look at them in new ways and find tactics to address them. Our toolkit will support your new thinking and set you on a new path to success.


What topics are covered? 

Our courses are tailored to your needs by selecting from a list of tools, each of which is an individual topic and takes about an hour. Each tool generally covers one key management skill, behaviour or attribute, is accompanied by a toolcard (which builds up to create a personalised toolkit) and uses our Tell-Show-Do experiential learning methodology.

1. Create The Right Mindset

What are you thinking about this obstacle? What information do you have about it? How can you change your thinking from “I can’t, this won’t” to I can, we will…” By asking the right questions and challenging our own perceptions, we can learn how to change and adapt our thinking to an Open Mindset.

3. Define And Redefine The Obstacle

How we define the obstacle makes a huge difference. We will help you see it clearly, and address it at the right level.

5. Thinking Outside The Box

Sometimes when we are too close to a problem we can’t see the ‘wood for the trees’. It is only by getting perspective that we can see things from a different angle. ‘Thinking outside the box’, is a metaphor that means thinking differently, unconventionally. Our tools can help you do just that with the obstacle you are facing so that you can gain a new view on things.

2. Leverage The Power of Diversity

By looking at others who have overcome major obstacles in life we can learn how even the biggest challenges can be overcome. We view this through the lens of diversity and realise that everyone has something to offer it is just that sometimes we only see things from our perspective. We learn to value rather than regret or avoid difference.

4. Chunking The Elephant

Desmond Tutu once said wisely “There is only one way to eat an elephant – a bite at a time.” What he meant by this is that everything in life that seems daunting and overwhelming and even impossible, but can be accomplished gradually by tackling it one step at a time. We use that wisdom to help you break down the obstacle into manageable chunks.

6. Creating A Smart Action Plan And Getting Help

We will help you formalise a SMART action plan to get your obstacle addressed and help you find people to support you in that task.


How long is the course?

It depends on how many units you selected from the list above! Each unit takes about an hour, with extra time for an introduction, any breaks that are needed and a wrap-up. Choose one unit or add them together - three units make up half a day, and five or six units make a full day.

What can you expect?

Interactive, thought-provoking training that can be virtual, face-to-face or a hybrid of the two. We use a variety of methods to create learning that sticks: from videos to activities and exercises in groups or individually, to e-learning, to further reading.
