Innovation For Organisations and Individuals

Proven methods and tools to encourage different thinking

Proven methods and tools to encourage different thinking

From product development, services and ways of working – innovation spans all aspects of business – from the incremental to the transformational. Training in innovation encompasses two main sets of competencies:

  • enabling innovation for the people who create innovation and new solutions and

  • fostering innovation for the people who set the tone and create the right environment for innovation to flourish.

Treehouse builds the capability to do both of these in tandem.

Innovation as a Skill

Innovation is a skill that can be learned:

  • as a methodology that can be applied to create innovation such as Agile Scrum,

  • via facilitation skills that can be adopted by practitioners using Treehouse’s TREEANGLE different thinking methodology or

  • as an everyday leadership skillset to foster an innovative culture and behaviours.

Innovation - where to start?

The place to start is always to assess your organisational or individual capability – an Innovation Cultural Audit will help you determine if the primary need is cultural or skills development. After the Innovation Cultural Audit, a Management Training Needs Review and Strategic Recommendation will help you determine where to focus your effort for the best return on investment.

A number of years ago I remember giving a lecture to a number of the Dstl innovators, invited by a number of people who had done your training. I gave a number of examples of research that I had done that is now in service with the military. As I was speaking they were saying things like, ‘oh this is related worlds’ or ‘great example of evil genius’..... As I had not done your training, at the time, I didn’t have the first clue what they were talking about! So it is not just about being a successful innovator, I also need to understand the language that those around me were using. I rest my case ....... where do I sign :-).

The team embraced it (the Treeangle visioning technique) and it was a really useful way of getting them to have a useful discussion but also to have a bit of fun at the same time.
It was really valuable to get them talking to each other (which was one of the purposes of the day!), as well as jointly articulating some great ideas as to what the network could do for them which has given us some really useful ideas to start actioning.
