Asthma and Lung UK Case Study
an engaging, conversation-led workshop
The situation and brief
Asthma & Lung UK (A&LUK) set out to answer a pivotal question:
“How can we develop a framework to identify which overlooked communities to reach—and how?”
This was more than a strategic exercise - it was about ensuring that limited resources and support reach those who need them most. To do this, the team needed a deep understanding of all communities, enabling them to prioritise and target those most in need.
A&LUK wanted a session that would unite colleagues, create clarity, and turn a complex challenge into a practical roadmap. Around 25 participants joined the workshop, delivered by Treehouse pro bono as part of its Charity of the Year partnership.
The Treehouse solution and activity
Treehouse designed an engaging, conversation-led workshop that prioritised collaboration over presentation. The day began by building a shared understanding of what “overlooked” means in A&LUK’s context. From there, participants co-created the framework’s foundations—defining decision-making criteria, shaping a fair prioritisation approach, and mapping existing assets and partnerships to leverage.
The session closed with a focused planning sprint, producing a three-month action plan with clear owners and timelines to maintain momentum.
The outcome or impact
By the end of the workshop, A&LUK had a draft framework, an agreed prioritisation method, and a practical plan to test and refine over the coming months.
Feedback described the session as inclusive, well‑paced, and action‑oriented, highlighting how it transformed a challenging question into manageable steps with tangible outcomes.
Petra McCauley, Head of Support Groups + Volunteering and Project Lead at A&LUK, shared:
“Thanks so much for facilitating and guiding the workshop yesterday. It was a really productive and thought-provoking day that provided us with potential frameworks and definitions. As the project lead, it has helped tremendously to focus and organise my thoughts. I was so pleased that everyone was engaged, and the room had a good energy that really helped with the tasks.” (31st July 2025)
A follow‑up session was scheduled to maintain progress and embed the framework into everyday decision‑making.
